If a bank holiday is on a weekend, a ‘substitute’ weekday becomes a bank holiday, normally the following Monday.
Bank holidays are holidays when banks and many other businesses are closed for the day.
Public holidays are holidays which have been observed through custom and practice.

Four-day Long Weekend

The UK will celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s 70th anniversary as monarch with a blockbuster weekend of celebrations. The May Bank Holiday weekend will be moved to Thursday 2 June and an additional Bank Holiday on Friday 3 June will see a four-day long weekend to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
